Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Uganda Chapter is one of 35 national chapters of FAWE, a pan-African non-governmental organization founded in 1992 by five women ministers of education to advance girls’ and women’s education across Africa. Established in Uganda in 1997, FAWE Uganda works to accelerate female participation in education and close the gender gap at every level of the education system.
Our overall goal is that girls across Uganda are able to access quality education. We pursue this through five strategic objectives:
FAWE Uganda is unique in its focus on girls’ and women’s education and development, while engaging both boys and men in the solution. We take a holistic, community-based approach working directly with learners, teachers, school administrators, and management committees to build safe, conducive learning environments. Since our founding, we have delivered programs in adolescent sexual and reproductive health, protection from violence against children, gender equality, scholarships, and emergency social services, reaching vulnerable girls, boys, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups across all regions of Uganda. Every project is designed participatorily, involving affected communities from design through monitoring and evaluation.
